Fat, cholesterol, fiber and sodium intakes of US population: evaluation of diets reported in 1987-88 Nationwide Food Consumption Survey
Article Abstract:
Americans continue to consume less fiber and more sodium, while their total fat and saturated fat intakes have changed toward a healthier diet. This was revealed by an evaluation of fat, cholesterol, fiber and sodium consumption of Americans according to age. Those who are below 51 years old appear to have healthier diets in terms of their total fat, saturated fat, dietary fiber and sodium intakes. Overall, the dietary patterns of Americans have undergone positive changes in recent years, but these changes still fall short of current dietary recommendations.

Comparison of self-report of reduced fat and salt foods with sales and supply data
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the validity of self-reported use of reduced fat and reduced salt foods through analyses of data gathered from a supermarket and food supply questionnaire. The study revealed that external data did not back up the validity of self-reported use of such products. The findings, however, are nonrepresentative and, hence, preclude a definite conclusion. More research has to be done regarding dietary instruments.

An evaluation of energy intakes in the 1983 Australian National Dietary Survey of Adults
Article Abstract:
A National Dietary Survey of Adults in 1983, conducted on the basis of Goldberg approach, reveals that the energy consumption is less than estimated according to the underlying principles of energy physiology. The deficiency in energy consumption is considerably higher in women than in men. These results are important for the implementation of future health reforms and for eliciting public response.
