Vasodilatory response of fetoplacental vasculature to adrenomedullin after constriction with the thromboxane sympathomimetic U46619
Article Abstract:
Adrenomedullin relaxes fetal blood vessels and can counteract substances that contract fetal blood vessels. Adrenomedullin is a naturally occurring peptide in the body that is found in blood and many organs.

Fetoplacental vascular tone during fetal circuit acidosis and acidosis with hypoxia in the ex vivo perfused human placental cotyledon
Article Abstract:
Fetal acidosis or acidosis with hypoxia may not affect blood flow in the placenta. Acidosis is an abnormally low blood pH often resulting from hypoxia, a lack of oxygen. Two portions of the placenta called cotyledons were surgically removed from each of 14 placentas. The fetoplacental perfusion pressure was used to measure the resistance in the blood vessels of the placenta at rest, and when constricted with angiotensin II. Pressures were recorded during infusion with normal, acidic, and acidic-hypoxic solutions. No alterations in pressure were seen in response to the solutions tested.

Adrenomedullin concentrations in umbilical cord plasma of uncomplicated term pregnancies
Article Abstract:
No significant difference was found between arterial and venous plasma concentrations of adrenomedullin in umbilical cord blood of 44 uncomplicated pregnancies with vaginal deliveries. The results indicate that the placenta is not involved in net production or net destruction of adrenomedullin, a vasoactive peptide, under normal conditions.
