Fighting for life
Article Abstract:
It is estimated that 500 boxers have died as a result of boxing injuries since 1884, with the latest being 23-year-old Bradley Stone. A single major blow to the head or repeated blows to the head can cause dementia pugilistica. Symptoms of the condition include memory loss, parkinsonism, social instability, and psychiatric symptoms. A study of the postmortems of 15 former boxers revealed that only three had no evidence of brain damage.
