Fighting the 'industrialization of medicine.'(Boston physicians start campaign against HMOs)
Article Abstract:
Physicians in Boston have begun a campaign against the accelerating takeover of health care services by for-profit health maintenance organizations. The movement has enlisted the support of over 2000 Massachusetts physicians since early 1997. A call to action will be published in the the Journal of the American Medical Association in October 1997 in an effort to gain nationwide support. Supporters believe the doctor-patient relationship and the professionalism of physicians is threatened by profit-driven firms.
