Fit for care
Article Abstract:
The Project 2000 programme aims to integrate theory withpractice, however there have been suggestions that some students lack competence in the clinicalarea, while others suggest they have a wide range of caring skills. The college executive team atSheffield and North Trent College of Nursing and Midwifery agreed a strategy to consider thedelivery and development of the existing curriculum. Most participants felt that a nurse shouldhave a range of key competences at the point of registrtion, as a base on which to develop furtherspecialist and advanced skills.

Self-assessment of Project 2000 supervision
Article Abstract:
A study of the views of nurses about their supervision of Project 2000 students found that most were generally satisfied with preparatory courses. There was perceived pressure on those who supervise and assess student nurses because of the demise of the clinical teacher. Some practitioners felt poorly supported and the numbers of students and timescales were seen as problematic.
