Fixed and dynamic predictors of client retention in therapeutic communities
Article Abstract:
The effects of fixed variables including demographic factors and background characteristics were compared with dynamic variables such as psychological status on predictingthe retention of 753 clients in five traditional therapeutic communities for substance abusers. Results showed that dynamic variables were more predictive of client retention than fixed client variables. The stronger predictors include interviewers' assessment whether client would stay in the program, whether clients spent most of their time with large groups of people and whether the client has been jailed prior to admission to the program.
