The government's 'Revitalising health and safety' (Consultation Document July 1999) aims to identify practical solutions for the improvement of health and safety. The public, employers, and employees have been invited to submit their comments by September 24 1999. In particular the government seeks to reduce accidents and poor health, promote health and safety management, and address those who ignore health and safety law.

'Drug czar' launches guidance for employers
Article Abstract:
UK Anti-Drugs Coordinator Keith Hellawell has launched a revised guide for employers on how to manage employee drug misuse. The guide, which emphasizes the supportive approach, covers problems related to the misuse of both prescription and illegal drugs. The Health and Safety Executive, who produced the free book, say the aim is to ensure that employers have developed a policy before any problem occurs.
