Bone heals itself immediately after a fracture. Sometimes, though, broken bones fail to repair themselves. In such cases, doctors may aid the natural healing process through electromagnetic stimulation or ultrasound. Researches on injecting materials into the fracture area are also underway.

Hip fractures occur most often in elderly people who have other serious health problems. Surgery is usually the best way to treat hip fractures, and becoming active again as soon as possible during recovery is necessary to avoid complications such as blood clots.
