Frankly underwhelming
Article Abstract:
Nurses are going to play a key role in the future of the UK National Health Service, according to Health Secretary Frank Dobson. It is important to make better use of the talents nurses have and to give them the right to be decision-makers. He remains uncertain about when the government will publish new plans for determining public sector pay, but hopes that it will not be necessary in the future to stage public sector pay. He does not feel that there is a shortage of nurses to staff the additional 2,000 beds he has just reopened.

Frank being frank
Article Abstract:
It can be difficult when politicians are expected to give clear answers on very complex issues, according to UK Health Secretary Frank Dobson. He is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in, but also acknowledges that the Labour party has moved on since he first joined it. He accepts that welfare reform is inevitable, although plans to reduce or means test benefits will attract considerable controversy. He is sometimes deliberately controversial, and does not necessarily strive for political correctness.

Quality, quality, quality is the new mantra
Article Abstract:
The UK government has launched an initiative aimed at improving the quality of care for National Health Service (NHS) patients. NHS trusts will have to undertake a number of activities concerning clinical governance. These activities will include the establishment of a clinical governance committee, the formulation of a plan for improving the quality of clinical care, and the establishment of a system to report publicly on clinical governance work.
