Leg Symptoms in Peripheral Arterial Disease: Associated Clinical Characteristics and Functional Impairment
Article Abstract:
Many people with peripheral arterial disease in their legs do not experience intermittent claudication when walking but may have other symptoms. Intermittent claudication occurs when people have pain in their legs when they walk that stops when they rest. It is considered the most common sign of peripheral artery disease.

Functional decline in peripheral arterial disease: Associations with the ankle brachial index and leg symptoms
Article Abstract:
The objective of this study was to define whether peripheral arterial disease (PAD), ankle brachial index (ABI), and specific leg symptoms predict functional decline at two-year follow-up. It was found that the baseline ABI and the nature of leg symptoms was able to predict the degree of functional decline at two-year follow-up whereas lack of worsening in claudication symptoms over time in PAD patients were more related to decline functional performance than lack of disease progression.

Midlife body mass index and hospitalization and mortality in older age
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the relation of midlife body mass index with morbidity and mortality outcomes in older age among individuals without and with other major risk factors at baseline. It was found that for individuals with no cardiovascular risk factors as well as those with one or more risk factors, those who are obese in middle age have a higher risk of hospitalization and mortality from coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes in older age than with normal weight.
