Futurists See Longer, Better Life in the Third Millennium
Article Abstract:
Physicians discussed the changes in health and medicine that might occur in the first few decades of the 21st century. At the NextMed2 conference held in April, 1999, participants spoke about turning cancer into a manageable disease like diabetes, eliminating cardiovascular disease as a leading cause of mortality, extending the human lifespan to 150 years, and even reversing the aging process. The existence of the Internet and alternative medicine may change the practice of medicine.

Heading for Better Health Care in Peru
Article Abstract:
Medical volunteers and donated equipment from developed nations may be key to improving Peru's national health care system. EsSalud covers salaried employees, but the government would like to expand benefits to the unemployed, imprisoned, tourists, disaster victims, and students. With a total budget of only $850 million, Peru will depend on visiting physicians to share their knowledge and donate supplies and equipment to improve health services.
