Nicotine dependence among adolescent smokers
Article Abstract:
Nicotine withdrawal symptoms may prevent many teenage smokers from successfully quitting. Researchers surveyed 249 tenth-grade smokers who had previously attempted to quit smoking, and found that strong cigarette cravings, nervousness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and other withdrawal symptoms were common. The scores obtained from the Modified Fagerstrom Tolerance Questionnaire (mFTQ), which measures the level of nicotine dependence, were closely associated with the number of symptoms the smokers experienced.

Missed opportunities for vaccination and the delivery of preventive care
Article Abstract:
Pediatric care providers should review a child's immunization status at all visits and follow-up chronically underimmunized children. Researchers reviewed the medical records of 1,164 two- to four-year-old patients of a managed care clinic for their immunization histories. Most of the children (88%) were fully immunized. Underimmunized children had more missed opportunities to vaccinate than fully immunized children.
