Genetic screening: risk factors for breast cancer
Article Abstract:
The identification of the genes responsible for breast, colon and ovarian cancers means that more effective screening is possible. A 1996 UK working party has suggested a model for the approach to screening in preparation for the expected demand for this procedure. A breast cancer screening programme being introduced in East Anglia has the same three-tier approach as that proposed in the working party's model. This approach was originally suggested in the Calman report. The working party also recommended the establishment of a specialist training programme.
