Genetics in the Context of Medical Practice
Article Abstract:
The Human Genome Project is predicted to map the entire human genetic code by 2003. Begun in 1990, genetic information uncovered by the Project has already resulted in the development of genetic tests for disease. Primary care physicians will increasingly incorporate genetic testing and counseling into their regular practice, and use genetic data in clinical decision-making. Many Americans have expressed concerned about the possible loss of privacy that may come with widespread genetic screening.

The anatomy of the human Genome: A Neo-Vesalian Basis for Medicine in the 21st Century. (Special Communication)
Article Abstract:
The evolution of medical genetics since 1956 is reviewed. The anatomy of the human genome may revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases just as the anatomical studies of Andreas Vesalius revolutionized medicine.

Implications of the Human Genome Project for Medical Science
Article Abstract:
The sequencing of the human genome in the year 2000 has broad implications for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. However, issues of genetic discrimination will have to be addressed once genetic screening is widespread.
