Allergic contact dermatitis in dental professionals: effective diagnosis and treatment
Article Abstract:
Dental professionals may develop contact dermatitis from some of the materials they must work with every day. Adhesives, resin-based composites, dental bonding agents, equipment sterilizing solutions, and rubber dental supplies may all contain chemicals that can irritate skin. These chemicals include carbamate, thiuram, mercaptobenzothiazole, quaternium-15, and acrylates.

Glutaraldehyde-induced and formaldehyde-induced allergic contact dermatitis among dental hygienists and assistants
Article Abstract:
Many dental assistants and dental hygienists may develop an allergy to glutaraldehyde. This chemical is still used in sterilizing solutions despite its adverse effects because it is cheap and effective. However, a study of 101 dental hygienists and dental assistants found that 11% had an adverse reaction to the chemical, compared to only 2% of 51 non-dental professionals.
