Pat Hill, project safety manager for the McAlpine Lock Replacement project on Louisville, Kentucky, explains how he trains his safety supervisors to enable them to become effective managers. John Dooney, manager of strategic research for the Alexandria, Virginia-based Society for Human Resource Management, discusses the benefits of coaching staff and points out how it helps managers also. Guidelines for how managers in the safety department should groom their staff to make them proper safety professionals are presented.

Rural electric cooperatives pull together for safety
Article Abstract:
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is successfully running a safety program called Rural Electric Safety Accreditation Program aiming at utilizing their limited resources in achieving highest safety standards. The regional level training offered also benefits the small cooperatives, which cannot take part in the program.

Who's in the driver's seat

Companies should give more importance to the safety education of their employees, especially those who work as drivers. Irrespective of the vehicle driven, be it a big commercial truck or a compact car, employers should feel liable to the accidents that may happen.
