Relationship of microbiologic diagnostic criteria to morbidity and mortality in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia
Article Abstract:
The prognosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) appears to be similar regardless of how the condition was diagnosed. Researchers followed 325 people with VAP, of whom 102 had been diagnosed on the basis of a positive protected specimen brush and 223 whose specimen brush had been negative but had been diagnosed by some other method. Mortality rates were similar in both groups. This indicates that VAP diagnosed by positive specimen brush does not have a worse prognosis than VAP diagnosed by another method because the specimen brush was negative.

Criteria and Recommendations for Vitamin C Intake
Article Abstract:
The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of vitamin C should be increased from 60 milligrams to between 120 and 200 milligrams. These new recommendations are based on extensive research on the metabolism of vitamin C. One gram or more per day is probably too much and may have adverse effects in some people. Doctors should encourage their patients to get most of their vitamin C from five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
