Article Abstract:
Newborn babies with low Apgar scores are not likely to survive if they weigh less than 1,000 grams and were born before 26 weeks' gestation. Even those who survive may still have developmental disabilities.

Risk factors for adverse maternal outcomes among women with HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome
Article Abstract:
African-American pregnant women with the HELLP syndrome are more likely to develop eclampsia than white women, according to a study of 183 pregnant women. HELLP syndrome and eclampsia are both serious complications of pregnancy.

HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome versus severe preeclampsia: onset at 28.0 weeks' or less gestation
Article Abstract:
Pregnant women who develop the HELLP syndrome during the second trimester do not have a worse outcome than those who develop preeclampsia during the second trimester. Both of these complications of pregnancy are serious, but the HELLP syndrome was believed to be even more serious than preeclampsia.
