This article discusses the report from the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services on patient safety in clinical research studies. The report finds that many of the institutions have failed to meet recommended changes in providing protection for patients; however, some clinics believe the recommendations to be unrealistic and cost prohibitive.

Stem cell researchers ponder worst-case scenario
Article Abstract:
The scientists have begun to dread the impact of a potential ban on federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research in the United States. This ban on federal funding for human cell work would raise serious problems for scientists and might criminalize developmental biology since, a lab using private funding for stem cell research would risk breaking the law by transferring stem cell DNA or RNA to cells in federally-funded projects.
