HLA-G protein concentration in maternal serum and placental tissue are decreased in preeclampsia
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether soluble human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) protein levels in serum and HLA-G in placental tissues differ between women with preeclampsia versus uncomplicated pregnancies. It was found that the reduced expression of placental HLA-G and reduced release of this protein into the maternal circulation in preeclampsia might alter the maternal-fetal immune relationship and thus be involved in the cause of this disorder.

Maternal insulin-like growth factor-I levels (IGF-I) reflect placental mass and neonatal fat mass
Article Abstract:
The relationship between the rate of increase in individual maternal insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) levels after 16 weeks, placental mass, and neonatal fat mass are analyzed. The serial changes in maternal IGF-I and IGF binding protein-I (IGFBP-1) levels during pregnancy do not reflect differences in either corrected birth weight or placental mass at term.

Effects of dexamethasone on the uterine and umbilical vascular beds during basal and hypoxemic conditions in sheep
Article Abstract:
The effects of the maternal treatment with dexamethasone on the uterine and umbilical blood flow during the acute hypoxemic stress in sheep are examined. It was observed that this treatment significantly decreased basal umbilical vascular conductance and prevented the normal increase in umbilical blood flow that was induced by the acute hypoxemia in fetal sheep.
