Future imperfect
Article Abstract:
A new report from the UK's Policy Studies Institute gathers together figures from the Museum and Galleries Commission's Digest of Museum Statistics database and other information about museums and art galleries. Some discrepancies are shown in the data, such as the proportion of museums that charge entrance fees. DOMUS says that 64% of museums give free access to their main areas, while British Tourist Board/English Tourist Board figures claim just 49%. The most worrying finding is the belief of many professionals that the influx of lottery funding into new-build projects could cause problems for future running costs.

How 'shrunk' snuck in
Article Abstract:
The verbs 'shrink' and 'sink' are examined and speculations are made as to why the forms 'shrunk' and 'sunk' are accepted differently. Some object to the form 'shrunk' but accept 'sunk.' Influences such as the move title, 'Honey I shrunk the kids' may account for growing acceptance of the form.
