Handmaidens and battleaxes
Article Abstract:
Films and television programs have had a major impact on the public perception of nurses, according to a study of how nurses are presented as public figures. The UK National Film Theatre is to present a review of films which portray nurses from sex objects to monsters. Nurses are also perceived as self-sacrificing professionals who give up everything for their career, or as women who are fulfilled as nurses because they enjoy serving men.
