Applying viral load measurements to HIV care
Article Abstract:
HIV RNA levels appear to provide an accurate picture of disease progression in infected individuals. HIV RNA tests measure the number of viruses in a given volume, frequently called the viral load, while CD4 counts measure the disease's impact. Laboratories report viral load measurements as a logarithm. Studies have shown that changes of 0.5 log in either direction indicate significant improvement or deteriorating condition. Viral load measurements should be monitored routinely in patients with HIV.

Raloxifene: A New Class of Anti-Estrogens for the Prevention of Osteoporosis
Article Abstract:
Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), such as raloxifene, can provide female patients the benefits of estrogen therapies while avoiding some of their risks. Benefits include cardiovascular performance and improved bone mass, making them useful in preventing osteoporosis. Estrogen therapy risks that SERMs circumvent include harmful impacts on uterine and breast tissue.
