Harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation
Article Abstract:
Doctors are concerned about the health hazards involved in cosmetic tanning by means of sunbathing or artificial tanning devices. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes skin redness, sunburn, premature skin aging, cancer, eye damage, alteration of the disease-fighting capabilities of the skin, and allergy to certain chemicals, with the severity depending on the type and amount of UV exposure. There is circumstantial but unproven evidence that the increase in cutaneous malignant melanoma over the past 50 years is due to increased sun exposure, although UV exposure more commonly results in squamous or basal cell carcinoma. Sunscreens have been developed that can do much to prevent or reduce the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation if used properly and consistently. Other safety measures include minimizing exposure to UV radiation, being aware of reflective surfaces while in the sun, wearing protective clothing, avoiding the use of artificial tanning devices, and protecting infants and children.

More breast implant prose and cons - contractures and confounding: the controversy continues
Article Abstract:
It is unlikely that any personal characteristics of women who get breast implants are obscuring a link between breast implants and connective tissue disease. Despite the controversy over breast implants, several epidemiological studies have shown no association between implants and connective tissue disease. A 1997 study found that women with breast implants have other personal characteristics that may confound the issue. However, none of the characteristics studied have been linked to connective tissue diseases.
