Health plans subject to new appeals rules
Article Abstract:
The Department of Labor rules for plan regulated by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974 may represent a gap in the armor that has protected managed care companies from lawsuits. ERISA plans that fail to fully comply with the abbreviated claims and appeals times set forward by the rules open themselves up to litigation.

California lawsuit challenges Medicaid reimbursement cuts

California physicians have filed a lawsuit alleging that impending Medicaid cuts violate federal law. Medi-Cal, the California Medicaid program, is set to implement a 5% cut in reimbursement that would be effective on 1st January 2004.
