Alert on dangerous heaters after guard's death
Article Abstract:
The HSE has alerted companies of the dangers of using gas heaters in enclosed spaces following the death of a security guard in an office on a building site. Companies are particularly being warned about the use of such heaters in places such as freight containers that have been converted into site accommodation or storage units. Companies must ensure that there is enough ventilation in site cabins so that heaters do not become starved of air and produce undectectable carbon monoxide or LPG vapour.

Seeing the light: many companies are still in the dark as far as new legislation on lighting goes according to a new survey
Article Abstract:
Many office workers are dissatisfied with their lighting and some suffered physical discomfort as a result, according to a recent Gallup Poll on lighting. All new lighting installations must conform to the first stage of the Display Screen Equipment Regs, and the second stages covers all existing working environments. Employers must assess each workstation and evaluate health and safety risks.
