Hemoglobin variants and disease manifestations in severe Falciparum malaria
Article Abstract:
The case-control community survey study of 2591 children with severe falciparum malaria was carried out. The observation showed hemoglobin S (HbS) carrier state to be negatively associated to its all major forms while the negative association of the carrier states of hemoglobin C (HbC) and (-[alpha]) appeared to be limited to cerebral malaria and severe anemia, respectively.
