Highly active antiretroviral therapy attenuates re-endothelialization and alters neointima formation in the rat carotid artery after balloon injury
Article Abstract:
The effects of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) (lopinavir, ritonavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine) on neointima formation and endothelial recovery were evaluated by using the rat carotid artery balloon model. The evidence suggests that HAART might negatively influence the process of healing after coronary artery endothelial damage in vivo independently of HIV infection or extensive lipid abnormalities.

Active vaccine immune therapy for HIV-1
Article Abstract:
A clinical protocol to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of cytokines in chronically infected subjects is in development. It is concluded that plasmid cytokine adjuvants enhance immune responses in nonreplicating plasmid systems and these DNA plasmid vaccines induce immune responses.
