Hitting the streets
Article Abstract:
Homeless people have problems getting access to health care so a pilot mobile clinic was set up in Manchester, United Kingdom, during the winter of 1996. Nurse practitioners worked in the clinic and assessed the health needs of homeless people, gave basic treatment and helped them to register with a doctor. The callers had profound health problems, such as burns, chest pains, alcohol and drug problems, and mental health problems. The nurses felt that many of the people needed expert help and they were concerned that they could not meet these many of these needs.

Stoma care?
Article Abstract:
The Campaign for Impartial Stomacare (CIS) is concerned about the ethics of health authorities employing care nurses who are sponsored by stoma appliance companies. The CIS, backed by the RCN, is concerned the link between sponsorship and growing sales of products is undermining patient care, and claims that sales of 8,000 pounds sterling per-year can be generated by each patient. Stoma appliance companies sponsor 32% of the 380 stoma nursing posts in the UK.
