Home-based cardiac rehabilitation
Article Abstract:
A cardiac rehabilitation nurses discusses the scheme she set up for cardiac patients when they return home. The patients need support to be able to to make lifestyle changes which will allow them to lead a productive life. The patients are seen in hospital then, after discharge, they are visited at home and given advice on exercise and stress management. After this, they attend an exercise, health education and relaxation programme. The last phase of the scheme offers them on-going support to reach their goals. The service has proved to be useful to patients, families and health care staff.

Article Abstract:
A training course on intravenous therapy for children suffering from cystic fibrosis, and their families, to enable treatment and procedures to be carried out at home, is described. Participants include a paedriatic community sister or cystic fibrosis sister, an infection control sister, a pharmacist and a community physiotherapist. Families are given basic information on intravenous drug therapy, side-effects, hygiene, equipment, and physiotherapy during a study session, which is followed by practical training and continuing assessment at home.
