Life on easy street
Article Abstract:
American hospitals are introducing simulated streets to develop patient confidence in social situations and facilitate a return to the community. Phoenix Memorial Hospital first introduced the rehabilitation concept of 'Easy Street' in 1984. Replicas of high street shops and services enable redevelopment of skills through role playing. Customised Easy Streets have been installed in about 44 hospitals in America and Canada and Europe's hospitals have shown interest. However, some believe that sheltered environments are as effective as simulated environments in rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation challenge
Article Abstract:
Social and medical rehabilitation is a vital response to the increasing numbers of elderly people who need care and support. Essentially, rehabilitation involves medical diagnosis and treatment and also an assessment of an elderly person's social, mental and physical functional ability. It encompasses many disciplines, for example nursing, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Nurses can play a vital role in rehabilitating the elderly, since they are in close contact with patients, and are aware of the spiritual, physical, social and emotional requirements of patients.
