Home comforts
Article Abstract:
Projects carried out by nurses with the aim of improving patient care include the creation of a user-friendly health promotion room at Tower Hamlets Healthcare NHS Trust. The room offers a friendly and peaceful environment while encouraging people to accept greater responsibility for their health and well-being. Part of a flat roof at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, England, has been transformed into a balcony for patients of the haematology/oncology unit who can enjoy a beautiful view across a lake without having to leave the ward.

Cut the calls
Article Abstract:
The National Health Service needs to improve its patient administration systems. Under the Patient's Charter, patients must telephone to ensure they still have a bed at 9 am on the day they are due to be admitted to hospital. Hospital admissions may be cancelled because emergency patients have taken all the beds. The admission information leaflet needs to be better worded.
