Home sick
Article Abstract:
A 1996 report from the United Kingdom charity Shelter concluded that the homeless did not receive adequate health care. A hospital in London reported that medical care of the homeless during 1995 cost around 60,000 pounds sterling yet hospital care was only required in 43% of cases. The homeless are more likely to suffer from conditions caused by violence or by lack of treatment for infections. Although the homeless need extra health care their behaviour and general physical condition often results in poor treatment by accident and emergency staff.
