How I became one of the fathers of a superfamily
Article Abstract:
Pierre Chambon, discusses on his research projects amongst which the major one was on elucidating the mechanisms underlying transcriptional control in vertebrates that started from effects of X-ray irradiation on free ribonucleotides in rat tissues and suggested that RNA could be synthesized from nucleoside triphosphate. In 1969, he along with his group independently succeeded in solubilizing the 'aggregate' enzyme and discovered several RNA polymerase (Pol) activities.

Through the looking glass
Article Abstract:
A scientist relates his experience as a teenager while working with microscope and his fascination with Drosophila with its giant polytene chromosomes and their enigmatic banding pattern. Through his interest in electronic microscope he learned structural and physiological properties of lampbrush chromosomes, which is a chromatid consisting of a single long DNA molecule.

A deader vaccine?
Article Abstract:
A new approach for the development of live attenuated vaccines, which can be easily used against the polio and RNA viruses in general, is discussed. The approach is found to be based on the concept of 'quasispecies' and hence decreases the ability of the virus to adapt and spread in the body.
