How to increase the proportion of hysterectomies performed vaginally
Article Abstract:
More hysterectomies would be performed vaginally if gynecologists were more familiar with surgical methods for handling nonprolapsed uteri, uterine leiomyomas, and vaginal oophorectomy. Records of 500 women who had hysterectomies were examined. Vaginal hysterectomies were performed in 19.2% of the cases, but were not absolutely contraindicated in 76.4% of the cases.
