How to plot a course for safety training
Article Abstract:
Companies should tailor their safety training programs to the specific needs of their business. Such training, however, should be preventive rather than reactive, since the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is partial to the use of engineering or administrative controls in dealing with safety issues than the training of workers to cope with job hazards. The agency has issued guidelines for training, such as determining the type of training needed, identifying goals and objectives, creating learning activities, presenting information in a familiar and easy-to-understand language, assessing the training's effectiveness and enhancing the training program.

Is Europe prepared for a graying work force?
Article Abstract:
The growth of Europe's older population is expected to outpace that of the younger segment. This raises concerns over an aging work force which is at greater risk of age-related safety and health problems. The growing unemployment rate of the young currently takes precedence over the problems of older people. Nevertheless, the needs of an older work force will soon gain political imperative. Employers and safety professionals can better prepare for this eventuality by treating their elder employees as long-term assets worthy of the best possible treatment.
