Human susceptibility and resistance to Norwalk virus infection
Article Abstract:
The protective immunity to Norwalk virus infection in humans is multifactorial. Research reveals that 29% of the study population is homozygous recessive for the secretor phenotype gene FUT2 and does not express the H type-1 oligosaccharide ligand involved in the virus binding. Furthermore, a portion of the susceptible population exhibit FUT gene and hence show resistance to infection, indicating to the existence of a memory immune response.

Recombinant BCG exporting ESAT-6 confers enhanced protection against tuberculosis
Article Abstract:
Research describes modification of the live tuberculosis BCG vaccine by the introduction of region of deletion-1 locus into the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Results indicate that introduction of the complete locus, containing a minimum of 11 genes, leads to the full secretion of the antigens and immune response.

A low-carb diet for a high-octane pathogen
Article Abstract:
A brief description on the role of one metabolic pathway required for Mycobacterium tuberculosis to survive on host-derived lipids is presented. It might guide future efforts to develop new intervention strategies based on an understanding of the in vivo physiology of the bacterium.
