Hydrolysed protein formulas: thoughts from the Isle of Wight meeting
Article Abstract:
The use of hydrolyzed protein formulas of the Isle of Wight Workshop have an important role in the treatment of cow's milk protein allergy, although some clarification about their place in prophylactic regimens designed to reduce atopic decease in infants is needed. Careful use of these hydrolyzed protein formulas in selected high-risk situations showed the reduction of risk of early manifestations of atopic disease. The metabolic consequences of using such formulas is still under study.

The use of hydrolysates in allergy prevention programmes
Article Abstract:
Results of most of the atopy prevention trials starting from birth suggests that, a decreased incidence of eczema related to a decreased incidence of cow's milk protein sensitivity is a major effect of a partial whey hydrolysate in a high risk population. Research to analyses the high degree hydrolysates to define their cost and taste for a better prevention or vice versa is emphasized. A five-year follow-up data of a prevention program by using a partial hydrolysate is reported.

Which milk for normal infants?
Article Abstract:
The choice for infant's milk is evaluated on the basis of nutritional deficiencies common in the corresponding age groups. Breast milk or an infant formula is recommended up to six months of age while the high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in the older infant aged six to twelve months serves as the basis for milk choice. It was proposed that the deficiency in iron can be supplemented by the weanling's diet.
