Flooding in cranberry to minimize insecticide and fungicide inputs
Article Abstract:
The merits of traditional late-water flooding practices for diminishing the need to apply synthetic pesticides in cranberry beds in Massachusetts were investigated under current cranberry production conditions. Results indicate that the late water or a month-long spring flood is a very promising method for suppressing two major cranberry pests: the cranberry fruit worm and cranberry fruit rot. Integration of this traditional practice into current cranberry production programs every third year could greatly reduce pesticide use.
