IL-13 signaling through the IL-13alpha(sub 2) receptor is involved in induction of TGF-beta(sub 1) production and fibrosis
Article Abstract:
The study shows that the major inducer of fibrosis in many diseases, interlukin (Il-13) effectively induces transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta (sub 1) in macrophages through a two-stage process mediated by the receptor IL-13Ralpha (sub 2). The results show that this receptor acts as a potential therapeutic target for the prevention of fibrosis in prolonged inflammation in which both proinflammatory and T (sub H) 2 cytokines coexist.

Epithelial cells pay a Toll for protection
Article Abstract:
Ligands from commensal microflora can stimulate Toll-like receptors on the surface of intestinal epithelial cells. Patients are subjected to potentially sterilizing antibiotic regimens for treatment of sepsis, gut inflammation or cancer as it has adverse effect on epithelial cells.

Accelerated re-epithelialization in beta3-integrin-deficient mice is associated with enhanced TGF-beta1 signaling
Article Abstract:
Mice lacking beta3-integrins show enhanced wound healing with re-epithelialisation, several days earlier than in wild-type mice. This is the result of an increase in TGF-beta1 and enhanced dermal fibroblast infiltration into wounds of beta3-null mice.
