ISO 14001: good for the environment, good for business
Article Abstract:
Companies that adopted the international environmental-management system (EMS) standard, otherwise known as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001, have found out that it is an effective tool for cutting costs, boosting operations and taking care of the environment. Japan's Hitachi Research Laboratory, a case in point, switched off company lights during lunch hour as part of its EMS and saved $60,000 annually. ISO 14001 was developed with the ultimate goal of balancing environmental concerns with business needs.
