Identity crisis
Article Abstract:
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a serious ulceration of the skin which usually affects the lower limbs. The condition progresses so rapidly that clinicians may confuse it with necrotizing fasciitis but accurate diagnosis is important because antibiotics are ineffective and surgery will make the condition worse. Hematological tests include a full blood count, liver function tests, serum protein and electrophoresis. Systemic steroid treatment is used to combat pyoderma gangrenosum and the first signs of improvement are less pain and necrotic tissue and improved appearance.

Managing MRSA wound infection and colonisation
Article Abstract:
Wounds containing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are usually treated with topical antiseptic and/or antimicrobial therapy. It is important to establish a moist, wound-healing environment capable of being maintained using occlusive or semiocculsive dressings. Debridement is required if there is necrotic tissue or slough.
