If the respirator fits...
Article Abstract:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has implemented a new Respiratory Protection Standard on April 8, 1998, called "29 CFR 1920.34", which made stricter regulations for respirator testing for the shipping, construction, and general industries. The new guidelines require qualitative and quantitative fit testing for employees' face masks and are designed to test the equipment in a variety of conditions, such as normal and heavy breathing. The OSHA also requires employers to develop comprehensive respirator programs which address training, selection, and maintenance.

Improve your PPE program: tips from an OSHA compliance officer
Article Abstract:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's personal protective equipment (PPE) standard is the agency's ninth most frequently cited standard in 1998. In general, the standard requires employers to certify in writing that they have evaluated the workplace to see if there is a need for PPE. After the assessment, employers are mandated to choose and provide properly fitted PPE to protect employees from injury or impairment. Lastly, employers are required to train all employees on how to use their PPE and this training should be properly documented.

Use PPE to avoid hand injuries
Article Abstract:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has included in its standard on personal-protective equipment a provision focusing on hand safety that mandates workers to wear the right hand protection device during dangerous work. Among the hazards that workers face are burns, electrical shock and even AIDS-related infections. The government entity, however, has not recommended the type of gloves and other equipment to use.
