Transcription factors
Article Abstract:
Transcription factors are a class of proteins that have important roles in regulating gene expression. They work with DNA by stimulating genes to make copies of themselves (gene transcription). Abnormal gene expression may result in cancer, metabolic disorders, and hormonal disturbances. Elements inside and outside of cells change the way transcription factors bind to and activate DNA. Transcription factors may be classified by four structural motifs in DNA-binding domains: helix-turn-helix (HTH), zinc finger, leucine zipper, and helix-loop-helix (HLH). Transcription factors are needed for normal growth and development, and for cells to respond to external stimuli. The first step of identifying and cataloging transcription factors is taking place. Developing treatments to act on transcription factors that express themselves incorrectly may be the next step in genetic research.

Management of acquired bullous skin diseases
Article Abstract:
Many autoimmune skin diseases that cause blisters, such as pemphigus, pemphigoid, herpes gestationis, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, and IgA-mediated diseases, may be treated with drugs. The choice and dosage of drug strictly depends on an accurate diagnosis of the disease. Most of these diseases are treated with prednisone or another corticosteroid. Sometimes treatment may also involve an immunosuppressive drug, such as cyclophosphamide, which permits a lower dose of corticosteroid. Erythema multiforme and Stevens-Johnson syndrome may be treated with skin ointment or prednisone, though prednisone may not be safe in all cases. Toxic epidermal necrolysis is a potentially fatal skin disease which is treated with replacement of fluids and electrolytes, removal of dead skin, and antibiotic ointment.
