Short-term Prognosis After Emergency Department Diagnosis of TIA
Article Abstract:
About one-fourth of patients who have a transient ischemic attack (TIA) will have a stroke or other related health problem within three months of the TIA, according to a study of 1,707 patients who had a TIA. A TIA is a "mini-stroke" and most symptoms go away within 24 hours.

Improving the prediction of coronary heart disease to aid in the management of high cholesterol levels: what a difference a decade makes
Article Abstract:
A revised version of the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) risk-stratification system appears better able to predict the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in older people. The revised version of the NCEP system was developed based on data from the Framingham Heart Study. It was compared to the NCEP system to estimate the risk of CHD in 3,284 people who had blood lipid levels measured during a national health survey. The revised system was more capable than NCEP of discriminating between those at low- and high-risk of CHD among men 35 to 74 years and women 55 to 74 years old.
