The effect of fetal fibronectin testing on admissions to a tertiary maternal-fetal medicine unit and cost savings
Article Abstract:
Pregnant women who have a negative fetal fibronectin test probably are not in premature labor and should not be transferred to a larger hospital. In a study of 151 pregnant women, 90% of those with a negative test were not transferred, resulting in $30,297 in cost savings.

Neonatal neurodevelopmental outcomes following tocolysis with glycerol trinitrate patches
Article Abstract:
The effects of maternal tocolysis with glycerol trinitrate (GTN) patches on the neurodevelopment of infants are determined. The randomized trial has supported no difference between GTN patches in comparison with standard beta2 agonist for tocolytic therapy, while the results have underscored the association between premature labor and adverse infant outcomes.

Corticotropin-releasing hormone: a biochemical predictor of preterm delivery in a pilot randomized trial of the treatment of preterm labor
Article Abstract:
Blood levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone may predict which pregnant women are likely to deliver prematurely. This hormone is produced by the hypothalamus as well as the placenta and may play a role in labor. Researchers measured blood levels of the hormone in 26 pregnant women in premature labor who were randomly assigned to receive albuterol or glyceryl trinitrate. Both these drugs can prevent premature labor. Women who delivered prematurely had significantly higher blood levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone compared to women who carried the pregnancy to term.
