In search of the pioneers of nurse-led care
Article Abstract:
The Loeb Center in New York, New York, has changed significantly from the pioneering nurse-led in-patient centre which influenced the development of nurse-led units in the UK from the 1980s onwards. The Loeb Center became a nursing home in 1984 and now offers sub-acute care, and some long-term provisions, under a structure very similar to that which it was originally intended to improve, a structure in which recovering patients were denied the therapeutic benefits of qualified nursing care. This care was reserved for the technical care of the acutely ill.

Using qualitative research in community nurse casework
Article Abstract:
Community nurses often base their casework on relationships built up with learning disabled patients and their carers. Qualitative research methods texts are used to collect and construct casenotes, with an emphasis on detailed recording of information. Nurses are sometimes tempted to reduce the intensive data gathering, but this could result in casenotes becoming routine in quality.
