In the melting pot
Article Abstract:
An occupational therapist, a nurse, a social worker and a psychologist give their views about the implications of skill mixing. The occupational therapist and the nurse are concerned that their professions are being marginalized because other health professionals are impinging on their area of expertise. The social worker feels that mental health teams need clearer guidelines while the psychologist is worried that health authorities may try to fill clinical psychology vacancies with nurses or occupational therapists because they have had some psychology training and are cheaper to employ.

Consider yourself in control
Article Abstract:
There are a number of key factors determining the success of clinical supervision. There must be an expectation that supervision is the norm, and there must be an agreed contract between supervisor and supervisee. Agreement must be reached on who and what is being monitored as part of the supervision, and there must be appropriate training and supervision for the supervisors themselves. Supervision must avoid becoming counselling, but it is important to allow staff to express difficult emotions connected with their work.

So you think you've got it tough?
Article Abstract:
Primary health care workers are often overshadowed by the role nurses play in society, leaving the public to regard them as saintly when many are too concerned about themselves. Nurses are apt to use legal terminology to prevent their work being supervised, offering them the freedom to behave in a manner which provides more benefit to the nursing profession than to patients. Occupational therapists deserve a higher status in society, placing them on a equal footing with nurses.
