The low efficiency of maternal-neonatal transmission of hepatitis C virus: how certain are we?
Article Abstract:
Improvements in diagnosing hepatitis C infection and recent studies on transmission of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) from mother to infant are discussed. The determination of the viral DNA sequence has made the innovations in studying and detecting the virus possible. These advancements have already reduced the risk of spreading HCV through blood transfusion. Studies on HCV transmission, while not conclusive, indicate that the transmission of HCV from mother to infant is not likely. Two studies suggest that the risk of transmitting HCV from mother to infant is greater if the mother is also HIV infected. Although the medical field's understanding of HCV has significantly increased, more research on HCV infection and transmission is needed.

Malignant glioma physiology: cellular response to hypoxia and its role in tumor progression
Article Abstract:
The role of new blood vessel formation in the development and spread of a brain tumor called glioma is described. Topics include vascular properties in astrocytomas, angiogenic triggers, hypoxia-inducible factor-1, and the therapeutic implications of this research.
