Increased vulnerability of hippocampal neurons to excitotoxic necrosis in presenilin-1 mutant knock-in mice
Article Abstract:
The authors provide evidence that upholds the belief that excitotoxicity may be an element in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Excitotoxicity is a form of nerve injury involving overactivation of glutamate receptors, which, in turn, overloads the cells with calcium.

Selecting the right patient for tumor therapy
Article Abstract:
Patient selection and molecular target dependence are key to the development of molecular therapeutics in human cancer. This method should avoid large costly trials and limit patient exposure to drugs that are not likely to yield any clinical benefits.

Excitotoxic destruction facilitates brain tumor growth
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on glutamate that acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain. The destructive role of this glutamate if released in excess amounts and its effect on brain tumor growth are discussed.
